Home Education Day

We are hosting our first Home Education Day on Wednesday 2 July 2025 10.00am-4.00pm. This event is suitable for learners aged 5-16 years, but you are welcome to bring children outside of this age range. The day will include:

Shows

  • Science Show - how do aircraft fly?

(10.30am and 2.00pm, suitable for all ages)

  • Flying Colours - stories of ethnically diverse men and women of the RAF 

(11.30am and 3.00pm, suitable for ages 11+)

Drop-in activities (10.00am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 4.00pm, suitable for all ages)

  • Coding with Spheros (rolling robots)
  • Ask an Air Raid Warden - what would you like to know about life during the Blitz?
  • Rockets activity - make and launch your own paper rocket
  • Bridge making activity – build and test a bridge structure
  • Uniforms and Handling Collection - try on an RAF jacket and take a selfie

An area will be available to eat lunch and to socialise. Colouring activities will be available in this area. A lunchbreak has been built in between 12.30pm and 1.30pm, but you would be welcome to eat outside of these times. Please bring your lunch with you, or purchase from the Museum’s restaurant. There will also be an area set aside for any older learners who may wish to bring their own work with them and need a quieter space to sit with their laptop.

The Hendon Kitchen (restaurant), Shop, 4D Theatre and Flight Simulator will all be open as usual. A Learning Centre Room will be available for use throughout the day as a prayer room. There are Quiet Rooms available in H1, H3 and H6.

The cost for the Home Education Day is £7.50 per learner which allows you to join in with all the activities. Children under 5 go free.

Free parking available for event participants. Enter your car registration on the booking form.

Please note:

·         Children under 11 must be accompanied by a supervising adult at all times

·         Sensitive Content – Firearms, ordinance and projectiles are on open display throughout the Museum. While these areas won’t be used for activities on the day, this information is being provided to inform your visit.
