Introduction to Scale Model Weathering Workshop 2023

Take your models to the next level!

Some aircraft look amazing with a fresh coat of paint, however it can greatly advance your model by adding an aged, authentic look which tells the story behind your aircraft. However, starting the weathering process can a daunting prospect. Our ‘Introduction to Scale Model Weathering Workshop’ is the perfect place to start when looking to add detail to your models, whether they are aircraft, military vehicle, car or train.

This hands-on Introduction to Weathering workshop will be led by Simon “Sully” Thomason, an experienced scale modeller and staff member of the RAF Museum. Over 4 hours, attendees will learn the fundamentals of weathering techniques in a practical hands-on course. Sully will take you through the process of weathering your model step by step – from planning your work, choosing your materials and applying them in order to produce authentic and realistic results. The workshop will cover a number of different weathering techniques – from general wear and tear effects to creating and applying rust and realistic colouring.

We suggest you have basic knowledge of scale model building. No previous knowledge or experience in weathering scale models required.

 Equipment to bring with you:

All you need to bring is your scale model – all other materials will be provided.

If possible, please bring your scale model gloss finished. This is a hands-on course and you will be trying some of the weathering techniques yourself on your scale model – please keep this in mind when choosing which model to bring.
